Whoever said History is boring ......

1500s England :
Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May, and they still smelled pretty good by June.....However, since they were starting to smell, Brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting Married. 😃

Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children. Last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it.. Hence the saying, "Don't throw the baby out with the Bath water!"😳

Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof....Hence the saying "It's raining cats and dogs."😉

There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings could mess up your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That's how canopy beds came into existence.☺

The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt. Hence the saying, "Dirt poor."The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on floor to help keep their footing. As the winter wore on, they added more thresh until, when you opened the door, it would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entrance-way. Hence: a thresh hold.🤔

In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that always hung over the fire.. Every day they lit the fire and added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat. They would eat the stew for dinner, leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight and then start over the next day. Sometimes stew had food in it that had been there for quite a while. Hence the rhyme: Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot nine days old.🤣

Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special. When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off. It was a sign of wealth that a man could, "bring home the bacon."😁

They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around and chew the fat. Those with money had plates made of pewter. Food with high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.🧐

Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or the upper crust.😎

Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination would Sometimes knock the imbibers out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial.. They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up. Hence the custom of holding a wake.😜

England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places to bury people. So they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a bone-house, and reuse the grave. When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realized they had been burying people alive... So they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell. Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the graveyard shift.) to listen for the bell; thus, someone could be, saved by the bell or was considered a dead ringer.🤪

Now, whoever said History was boring???

A British Collector named Rous Peter was appointed as Collector of Madurai from 1812 to 1828.

Though a Christian by faith, he respected all faiths including Hinduism and also honored local practices.

Collector Peter was the temple administrator of the Meenakshi Amman Temple and conducted all his duties with sincerity and honesty and respected the religious sentiments of all people.

Collector Rous Peter respected and treated people of all faiths equally and this noble trait earned him the popular nickname ‘Peter Pandian'

Goddess Meenakshi Amman Temple was situated between Collector Peter's residence and office.

Everyday he used to go to the office by his horse and while crossing the temple, he got down from his horse, removed the hat and his shoes and crossed the whole path on his foot.

Through this small gesture he expressed his reverence to the Goddess!

One day there was a heavy downpour in Madurai city and River Vaigai was in spate.

Collector was sleeping in his residence and was suddenly disturbed and woken up by the sound of anklets and he left his bed to find out from where the sound had came.

He saw a small girl wearing pattuvastrams (silk garments) and precious ornaments and addressing him as 'Peter come this way'.

And he came out to follow her and was running behind the little girl to find out who she was!

As he came out of the house and was running, he was shocked as he turned to see behind him, his residence (whole bungalow) being washed away by the flood waters of River Vaigai!

He turned to follow the girl but she disappeared into thin air!

He saw that the girl ran without any shoes and was wearing anklets.

He beleived that his devotion for Mother Goddess Meenakshi had saved his life.

Later, he wished to give a gift to Lord Meenakshi Amman & consulted the priest of temple and ordered for a pair of golden shoes for Goddess Meenakshi Amman.

It is thus that the pair of Paadhukams consisting of

412 rubies,
72 emeralds,
and
80 diamonds

were made and donated to the temple.

His name was sculpted as "Peter" on the shoes.

Till this day the pair of Paadhukams are known as 'Peter Paadhukam'

Every year at the time of 'Chaitra Festival', utsava moorthy of Goddess Meenakshi Amman is decorated with the Padukams.

This is the incidence that had happened 200 years back in 1818 and for all those who have faith and belief Goddess Meenakshi had been benevolent with her blessings.

Tulsi ~ holy basil
The tulsi leaf has great medicinal value and is used to cure various ailments, including the common cold.
It symbolises,
1) Kalyani - Normally poisonous snakes and mosquitos do not come close to it due to some smell that it emits. That explains why it is a must in every house. The leaves as well roots are a cure for several diseases like malaria, cold, fever. The wood of this plant is used for Mala, ie a rosary for worship of Lord Vishnu and when worn in the neck it prevents diseases of the throat.
2) Visnu Priye - Tulsi has been described as the beloved of Lord Vishnu since he is the creator and Tulsi helps the health of human beings and animals, prevents soil erosion.
3) Moksha - prada - By keeping the body healthy, it keeps the mind healthy and free of worries enabling us to concentrate on worship of the Ultimate Reality in comfort.

Tulsi, along with all other species of basil, possesses remarkable physical and spiritually healing properties, as author Stephen P. Huyler summarizes, "Aside from its religious merits, Tulsi has been praised in Indian scriptures and lore since the time of the early Vedas as a herb that cures blood and skin diseases.

Ancient treatises extol it as an antidote for poisons, a curative for kidney disease and arthritis, a preventative for mosquito and insect bites, and a purifier of polluted air. Generally prepared in medicinal teas and poultices, Tulsi's widespread contemporary use in India as an aid to internal and external organs suggests these traditions are based upon practical efficacy." One finds descriptions of basil's health benefits in any of the books on herbs and ayurveda readily available today.

Tulsi is also extensively used to maintain ritual purity, to purify if polluted and to ward off evil. A leaf is kept in the mouth of the dying to insure passage to heavenly realms. During an eclipse, leaves are ingested and also placed in cooked food and stored water to ward off psychic pollution. Funeral pyres often contain tulsi wood to protect the spirit of the dead--as Bhutagni, destroyer of demons. tulsi leaves and sprigs are hung in the entryways of homes to keep away troublesome spirits, and the mere presence of the Tulsi shrine is said to keep the entire home pure, peaceful and harmonious.

What Indian advertisements taught me ??? Seriously ...

1. Kareena has dandruff problem, Katrina has dry hair problem, Shilpa has hairfall problem.

2. If you've a beautiful wife, make sure your neighbor doesn't use a deodorant in your absence.

3. Your complexion is more important than your qualifications.

4. If there is no salt in your kitchen you can use Toothpaste.

5. Every second oral care brand is No.1 and recommended by every dentist in India!!!

6. If your daughter is not Ready to Get married, take her to a jewelry/textile shop.

7. Only reason why men use deodorant is to get girls.

8. Most colas cure all kinds of phobias. You will be close to a superman, if you drink these regularly!!

9. All superstars are so poor that they prefer to risk life for a cool drink than to purchase it for Rs10!

10. The special effects in shampoo advertisements are greater than special effects in Avatar!

11. Fruit content in shampoo and soap is more than fruit content in 99% of juices.

12. Amul has better satirical cartoonists than people who make better milk products.

13. Most people buy vehicles to travel in bad roads but complain about roads in India.

14. You can't eat Dairy Milk Silk without spreading it all over your face.

15. Nobody uses motorbikes for commuting, its only to pick up girls.

16. All soaps kill 99.9% of germs.

17. People believe that Bacardi makes music CD's and Directors special/Kingfisher make mineral water.

18. The only thing mothers and daughters talk to each other is usually about hair oil.

19. No matter what kind of expert one is, he'll always wear a white laboratory coat.
Stress is the most miserable lifestyle conditions to suffer from. The problem with stress isn’t due to our physiology although ther hie are some diseases that can cause stress. But more often than not it is external factors wearing out your emotions at work or even at home.

Stress is defined as a bodily response to environment change. Well perhaps but that should be more specific to read lifestyle change as what we undergo everyday as part of routine activity is what causes the stress. Our body reacts in different ways to stress and though many feel they aren’t stressed out, you’ll be surprised knowing that you are. Here are nine signs you are over stressed and should do something about it.

1 Various types of body pain

When you’re stressed out, you may start experiencing unexplained aches and pains in your body. One clear indication of stress is stomach problems. Various other bodily symptoms are stomach ulcers, mouth ulcers, taut and tense muscle, chest pain and shortness of breath or palpitations. Arthritis may cause problems and headaches will be common. The first step towards stress management is acceptance.

2 You Suffer From Insomnia

Insomnia and restless sleep is another stress related symptom. Both Insomnia and oversleeping are stress induced as oversleeping could mean you are exhausted. Such problems can be rectified with a healthy diet, exercise, yoga and meditation. However you need to locate the root cause of your problem where psychotherapy will help a lot. Restless sleep, nightmares, or incessant worrying at night all impede your state of mind which can also be reflected in the way you dream. Sleep is the first problem you face when stressed.

3 Weight Fluctuations

Both sudden weight loss and weight gain could be an indication of stress which slows your metabolism resulting in gaining weight. Your emotional state affects appetite which in turns results in weight problems. Stress results poor circulation thus resulting in low levels of oxygen for cells. Your mental state directly impacts how you treat your physical body. eating disorders and the constant urge to eat is also a sign of stress.

4 Constant worrying about work and life problems

Inability to meet life’s challenges and manage work is one of the first problems to cause stress. Constant worrying can ultimately lead to increased psychological and physiological problems. If you are habituated in constantly checking emails, your phone, pouring over your work papers at night, the stress is taking a huge toll on you.

5 Even while awake you are restless

The constant need to do something or the inability to sit still is also a sign you are over stressed. This also is an indication of high anxiety levels where the inability to relax or read a book inst there. Your mind could be your worst enemy in elevating your problems because of viewing them form narrow perspectives. You need to seek professional help in managing your emotional anxiety. In addition activities like sitting in a park, stretching exercises and spending some quiet time alone for introspection can help.

6 You're impatient

Lack of tolerance and being impatient with others such as family members and friends is a definite sign of stress. If you find yourself snapping constantly at others and losing your temper, then it’s time to get help so that you ease the load of your shoulders. You simply have to slow down or you are liable to have a nervous breakdown.

7 Major mood swings

Like intolerance and impatience, moodiness is also due to stress. The typical behavior of laughing one moment and crying the next means your hormones are in turmoil. Stress makes you keep everything bottled up inside and when it does come out it releases a rush of emotions. Learn to talk to people. Confiding in friends or a close companion can certainly help. Stress not only drains you physically and emotionally, it takes a huge toll on your relationships. It can also trigger alcohol and drug addiction.

8 Unexplained Hair Loss

Carolyn Jacob, MD, medical director of Dermatology says that most people shed 100 hairs a day. However when stressed out, that number reduces to a resting phase which is shed all at once three to four months later. In effect, stress upsets normal physiological cycles of your body and hair loss is one of them.

9 Loss of Libido

This is one of the biggest problems of stress where males common experience a condition of erectile dysfunction and the inability to respond sexually to partners. The same could be said for females with stress. The lack of wanting intimacy of any kind is one of the biggest signs you are over stressed. Such problems definitely need medical attention and a proper stress management routine. Couples should always express their problems to one another because once the problems are out they no longer take hold of you.

In the United States, an estimated 5.4 million people have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. This figure is growing rapidly with the ageing population.

One of them was Steve Newport. His wife, Mary Newport, was a doctor. Dr. Mary learned that her husband had severe Alzheimer's disease.

When the doctor examined her husband at the hospital, he asked Steve to paint a clock. Instead, he drew a few circles and then drew a few figures without any logic. It was not like a clock at all!.

The doctor pulled her aside and said: "Your husband is already on the verge of severe Alzheimer's disease!"

It turned out that it was a test of whether a person had Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Mary was very upset at that time, but as a doctor, she would not just give up. She began to study the disease. She found out Alzheimers disease was associated to glucose deficiency to the brain.

Her research says: "The dementia of the elderly is like having diabetes in the head ! Before one has the symptoms of Diabetes or Alzheimer's disease, the body has already had problems for 10 to 20 years."

According to Dr. Mary's study, Alzheimer's disease is very similar to Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. The cause is also insulin imbalance.

Because insulin has a problem, it prevents the brain cells from absorbing glucose. Glucose is the nutrition of brain cells. Without glucose, brain cells die.

As it turns out, these high-quality proteins are the cells that feed our body.

But nutrition for our brain cell is glucose. As long as we have mastered the source of these two kinds of food, we are the masters of our own health!

The next question is, where to find glucose? It cannot be the ready-made glucose that we buy from the store. It is not from fruits such as grapes. She started looking for alternatives.

The alternative nutrients for brain cells are ketones. Ketones are necessary in brain cells. Ketones cannot be found in vitamins.

*Coconut oil* contains triglicerides. After the triglycerides in *coconut oil* is consumed, it is metabolised into ketones in the liver. This is the alternative nutrient for brain cells!

After this scientific verification, Dr. Mary added *coconut oil* to her husband's food. After only two weeks, when he went to the hospital again to do painting and clock tests, the progress was amazing.

Dr. Mary said: "At that time, I thought, has God heard my prayers? Wouldn't it be coconut oil that worked ? But there is no other way.Anyway, it's better to continue taking the*coconut oil*."

Dr. Mary was now part of the traditional medical practice base. She clearly knew the capabilities of traditional medicine.

Three weeks later, the third time she took him to do a smart clock test, the performance was better than the last time. This progress was not only intellectual, but also emotional and physical.

Dr. Mary said: "He could not do his running but now he can run. He could not read for a year and a half, but he can read again now after taking *coconut oil* for three months."

Her husband's actions had already begun to change. He did not speak in the mornings. Now she noticed a lot of changes: "Now after he gets up, he is spirited, talking and laughing. He drinks water himself and take utensils for himself on his own."

On the surface, these are very simple daily tasks, but only those who have come to the clinic or have demented relatives at home can experience the joy: It is not easy to see such progress!

After frying the greens & onions in coconut oil, making cakes with coconut, after taking 3 to 4 tablespoons of coconut oil per meal, 2-3 months later, the eyes too can now focus normally.

Her studies proved that *coconut oil* can really improve the problem of dementia in the elderly.

Apply *coconut oil* to bread. When coconut cream is used, the taste is unexpectedly good.

Young people can also use it for maintenance of health and prevention, and can improve if they have symptoms of dementia.

Dementia is caused because nutrients cannot be transported to brain cells, and nutrients must be passed from the body to the brain by insulin.

Especially for diabetic patients its not easy to get insulin secretion. “Nutrition cannot get to the brain. When brain cells are starved to death, they are deprived of intelligence.”

*Coconut oil* contains medium-chain triglyceride, which can supply nutrients to the brain without using insulin.
*So, it can improve Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease*.

Stroke has a new indicator! They say if you forward this to ten people, you stand a chance of saving one life. Will you send this along? Blood Clots/Stroke - They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, the Tongue:

During a BBQ, a woman stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) ...she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Jane went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening.

Jane's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 PM Jane passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Jane would be with us today. Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.

It only takes a minute to read this.

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.
>>RECOGNIZING A STROKE<<

Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR. Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S *Ask the individual to SMILE.

T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)
(i.e. Chicken Soup)

R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indication of a stroke.

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to 10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.

I have done my part. Will you?

10 Commandments of Marriage...

Commandment 1
Marriages are made in heaven.
But then again, so is thunder and lightning.

Commandment 2
If you want your wife to listen and pay strict attention to every
word you say, talk in your sleep.

Commandment 3
Marriage is grand -- and divorce is at least a 100 grand!

Commandment 4
Married life is very frustrating.
In the first year of marriage, the man speaks and the woman
listens.
In the second year, the woman speaks and the man listens.
In the third year, they both speak and the neighbours listen.

Commandment 5
When a man opens the door of his car for his wife, you can
be sure of one thing: Either the car is new or the wife is.

Commandment 6
Marriage is when a man and woman become as one;
The trouble starts when they try to decide which one.

Commandment 7
Before marriage, a man will lie awake all night thinking about something you said .
After marriage, he will fall asleep before you finish.

Commandment 8
Every man wants a wife who is beautiful, understanding,
economical, and a good cook.
But the law allows only one wife.

Commandment 9
Marriage and love are purely a matter of chemistry.
That is why one treats the other like toxic waste.

Commandment 10
A man is incomplete until he is married. After that, he is finished......

Children Psychology - Reasons Behind Children Unexpected behavior

1. If your child lies to you often, it is because you over-react too harshly to their inappropriate behavior.
2. If your child is not taught to confide in you about their mistakes, you have lost them.
3. If your child had poor self-esteem, it is because you advice them more than you encourage them.
4. If your child does not stand up for themselves, it is because from a young age you have disciplined them regularly in public.
5. If your child takes things that do not belong to them, it is because when you buy them things, you don't let them chose what they want.
6. If your child is cowardly, it is because you help them too quickly.
7. If your child does not respect other people's feelings, it is because instead of speaking to your child, you order and command them.
8. If your child is too quick to anger, it is because you give too much attention to misbehavior and you give little attention to good behavior.
9. If your child is excessively jealous, it is because you only congratulate them when they successfully complete something and not when they improve at something even if they don't successfully complete it.
10. If your child intentionally disturbs you, it is because you are not physically affectionate enough.
11. If your child is openly defiant, it is because you openly threaten to do something but don't follow through.
12. If your child is secretive, it is because they don't trust that you won't blow things out of proportion.
13. If your child talks back to you, it is because they watch you do it to others and think its normal behavior.
14. If your child doesn't listen to you but listens to others, it is because you are too quick to make decisions.
15. If your child rebels it is because they know you care more about what others

Did you know that at Harvard, one of the most prestigious universities in the world, the most popular and successful course teaches you how to learn to be happier?__ The Positive Psychology class taught by Ben Shahar attracts 1400 students per semester and 20% of Harvard graduates take this elective course. According to Ben Shahar, the class - which focuses on happiness, self-esteem and motivation - gives students the tools to succeed and face life with more joy._This 35-year-old teacher, considered by some to be "the happiness guru", highlights in his class 14 key tips for improving the quality of our personal status and contributing to a positive life:
🚩Tip 1. * Thank God for everything you have: * Write down 10 things you have in your life that give you happiness. Focus on the good things!
🚩Tip 2. * Practice physical activity * Experts say exercising helps improve mood. 30 minutes of exercise is the best antidote against sadness and stress.
🚩Tip 3. * Breakfast: * Some people miss breakfast for lack of time or not to get fat.
Legend of the Ambalappuzhaa Paal Paayasam

According to the legend, Lord Krishna once appeared in the form of a sage in the court of the king who ruled the region and challenged him for a game of chess (or Chaturanga). The king being a chess enthusiast himself gladly accepted the invitation. The prize had to be decided before the game and the king asked the sage to choose his prize in case he wins. The sage told the king that he had a very modest claim and being a man of few material needs, all he wished was a few grains of rice. The amount of rice itself shall be determined using the chess-board in the following manner. One grain of rice shall be placed in the first square, two grains in the second square, four in the third square, eight in the fourth square and so on. Every square will have double the number of grains of its predecessor.

Upon hearing the demand, the king was unhappy since the sage requested only a few grains of rice instead of other riches from the kingdom which the king would've been happy to donate. He requested the sage to add other items to his prize but the sage declined.

So the game of chess started and needless to say the king lost the game. It was time to pay the sage his agreed-upon prize. As he started adding grains of rice to the chess board, the king soon realised the true nature of the sage's demands. By the 20th square, the number had reached one-million grains of rice and by the 40th square, it became one-trillion. The royal granary soon ran out of grains of rice.

The king realised that even if he provides all the rice in his kingdom and his adjacent kingdoms, he will never be able to fulfill the promised reward. The number of grains was increasing as a geometric progression and the total amount of rice required to fill a 64-squared chess board is (2^ (64) - 1 ), which is equal to 18446744073709551615 grains (about 18*10^18, or 18 billion billion grains). This amount of rice would weigh about 460*10^12 kg, 4.6*10^2 Pg (Peta grams), or 460 billion tonnes (1,000 grains of rice weigh about 25g). This amount of rice would also cover the surface of India two meters deep!

Upon seeing the dilemma, the sage appeared to the king in his true-form, that of lord Krishna. He told the king that he doesn't have to pay the debt immediately but can pay him over time. The king shall serve Paalpaayasam (made of rice) in the temple freely to the pilgrims every day until the debt is paid off.

And so it continues to this day.

*ADVICE FROM AN 80 YEAR OLD MAN! IT IS A TRUE PRICELESS MASTER PIECE!*

*1.* Have a firm handshake.
*2.* Look people in the eye.
*3.* Sing in the shower.
*4.* Own a great stereo system. Music is life.
*5.* If in a fight, hit first and hit hard.
*6.* Don't expect life to be fair.
*7.* Never give up on anybody. Miracles happen everyday.
*8.* Always accept an outstretched hand.
*9.* Be brave. Even if you're not, pretend to be. No one can tell the difference.
*10.* Whistle.
*11.* Avoid sarcastic remarks.
*12.* Choose your life's mate carefully. From this one decision will come 90 per cent of all your happiness or misery ABSOLUTELY!.
*13.* Make it a habit to do nice things for people who will never find out.
*14.* Lend only those books you never care to see again.
*15.* Never deprive someone of hope; it might be all that he has.
*16.* When playing games with children, let them win.
*17.* Give people a second chance, but NOT a third.
*18.* Be romantic.
*19.* Become the most positive and enthusiastic person you know.
*20.* Loosen up. Relax. Except for rare life-and-death matters, nothing is as important as it first seems.
*21.* Don't allow the phone to interrupt important moments. It's there for our convenience, not the caller's.
*22.* Be a good loser.
*23.* Be a good winner.
*24.* Think twice before burdening a friend with a secret.
*25.* When someone hugs you, let him be the first to let go.
*26.* Be modest. A lot was accomplished before you were born.
*27.* Keep it simple at everytime.
*28.* Beware of the person who has nothing to lose.
*29.* Don't burn bridges. You'll be surprised how many times you have to cross the same river.
*30.* Live your life so that your epitaph could read, NO REGRETS.
*31.* Be bold and courageous. When you look back on life, you'll regret the things you didn't do more than the ones you did.
*32.* Never waste an opportunity to tell people you love them.
*33.* Remember no one makes it alone. Have a grateful heart and be quick to acknowledge those who helped and loved you.
*34.* Take charge of your attitude. Don't let someone else choose it for you.
*35.* Visit friends and relatives when they are in hospital; you need only stay a few minutes.
*36.* Begin each day with some of your favourite prayer
*37.* Once in a while, take the scenic route.
*38.* Send a lot of greeting cards. Sign them, 'Someone who thinks you're terrific.'
*39.* Answer the phone with enthusiasm and energy in your voice.
*40.* Keep a note pad and pencil on your bed-side table. Million-dollar ideas sometimes strike at 3 a.m.
*41.* Show respect for everyone who works for a living, regardless of how trivial their job.
*42.* Send your loved ones flowers. Think of a reason later.
*43.* Make someone's day by paying the toll for the person in the car behind you.
*44.* Become someone's hero.
*45.* Marry only for love, it is key to your happiness if every other thing fails.
*46.* Count your blessings.
*47.* Compliment the meal when you're a guest in someone's home.
*48.* Wave at the children on a school bus/house/street/
*49.* Remember that 80 per cent of the success in any job is based on your ability to deal with PEOPLE. That is emotional intelligence.
*50.* Share this to help your friends.
*51.* Make sure someone says THANK-YOU to you every day....

Very nice article by Late Khushwant Singh. Preserve this .....

How To Live & Die

I’ve often thought about what it is that makes people happy—what one has to do in order to achieve happiness.

1- First and foremost is good health. If you do not enjoy good health, you can never be happy. Any ailment, however trivial, will deduct something from your happiness.

2- Second, a healthy bank balance. It need not run into crores, but it should be enough to provide for comforts, and there should be something to spare for recreation—eating out, going to the movies, travel and holidays in the hills or by the sea. Shortage of money can be demoralising. Living on credit or borrowing is demeaning and lowers one in one’s own eyes.

3- Third, your own home. Rented places can never give you the comfort or security of a home that is yours for keeps. If it has garden space, all the better. Plant your own trees and flowers, see them grow and blossom, and cultivate a sense of kinship with them.

4- Fourth, an understanding companion, be it your spouse or a girlfriend or a best friend. If you have too many misunderstandings, it robs you of your peace of mind. It is better to accept the differences than to be quarrelling all the time.

5- Fifth, stop envying those who have done better than you in life—risen higher, made more money, or earned more fame. Envy can be corroding; avoid comparing yourself with others.

6- Sixth, do not allow people to descend on you for gossip. By the time you get rid of them, you will feel exhausted and poisoned by their gossip-mongering.

7- Seventh, cultivate a hobby or two that will fulfill you—gardening, reading, writing, painting, playing or listening to music. Going to clubs or parties to get free drinks, or to meet celebrities, is a criminal waste of time. It’s important to concentrate on something that keeps you occupied meaningfully.

8- Eighth, every morning and evening devote 20 minutes to meditation or introspection. In the mornings, 10 minutes should be spent in keeping the mind absolutely still, and five listing the things you have to do that day. In the evenings, five minutes should be set aside to keep the mind still and 10 to go over the tasks you had intended to do.

9- Ninth, don’t lose your temper. Try not to be short-tempered, or vengeful. Even when a friend has been rude, just move on.

10- Above all, when the time comes to go, one should go like a Person without any regret or grievance against anyone.
